Meet Kate
Kate has worked in the area of paediatric feeding for over 18 years. Beginning her career at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead she spent 5 years working with children with a range of feeding difficulties and complex medical conditions. Kate then moved to the UK, working in a London hospital she developed a passion for neonatal feeding and supporting families during their time in the NICU and beyond. Since returning to Sydney, Kate has led the paediatric feeding team at one of Sydney’s larger teaching hospitals.
Working closely with members of the multidisciplinary team to tailor treatment to suit the individual needs of the families with a goal to develop enjoyable and rewarding mealtime relationships. She has a particular interest in medically complex children and tube weaning. She provides clinical supervision to therapists both within acute and private settings. As a mother herself, she can understand the challenges of mealtimes and support families to find practical solutions to make a positive difference to their lives. Kate has followed her interests in a number of areas of feeding including Paediatric Videofluoroscopy Swallow Studies, neonatal feeding, responsive feeding practices, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), transdisciplinary and behavioural feeding approaches, seeking further professional development in these areas over the years.
Collective training and courses
Kate and Lenore’s postgraduate training has included many local and international workshops, further developing their skills and ensuring a current view on assessment and intervention strategies.
